About the event

Poets Out Loud @M|Arts! feat. Andrew Cox
Join us for POETS OUT LOUD hosted by prize-winning poet Sarah Temporal. It’s a full night of creativity at the M|Arts bar, Murwillumbah for wordlovers of all kinds!!

This month we feature ANDREW COX all the way from Canberra ACT! We know you’re going to love Andrew’s award-winning spoken word, filled with warmth, play, and unfettered emotion. Come along and see one of Australia’s finest.

Each Poets Out Loud night includes a poetry slam and open mic for YOU to share your spoken-word creations. Throw your name in the hat for one of 5 spots in the open mic or 10 spots in the poetry slam. May the poetry gods smile upon you!

Slam prize = $50 book voucher from Pulp Fiction Murwillumbah. Slam has a 2 min time limit, while open mic is non-competitive with 1 poem each. Sign-up is open from 6pm-7pm.

About the feature:

Andrew Cox is a Filipino/Australian, who lives and works on Ngunnawal & Ngambri country and leads the Canberra Poetry Slam, one of Australia’s largest regular performance poetry programs. Andrew’s work has been shortlisted for writing prizes, notably for Innovation in Spoken Word, and featured internationally for the 2023 Singapore Writers Festival. With an emphasis on performance Andrew has been on stages in every state and territory of Australia while his writing also has been published in multiple anthologies, most recently Admissions(Upswell publishing) and commissioned by the likes of Red Room Poetry. With focus in the disciplines of slam and spoken word, he has found national recognition as an emerging voice in Australian poetry.

About your host:

Sarah Temporal is a prize-winning poet, educator and cultural producer. Her debut collection Tight Bindings (Puncher and Wattmann, 2024) explores the stories we tell and the secrets we keep. Sarah is a winner of the Bunker Slam and Nimbin Poetry World Cup, with work published in Best of Australian Poems and more. Sarah loves working as a mentor for young writers and directing the annual Poets Out Loud Youth Slam. She founded Poets Out Loud to empower voices of all ages through writing and spoken-word.
